A mobility platform, Bolt, has launched “Bolt Market” to meet grocery delivery demand while making everyday shopping more convenient.
The company says the move is part of its strategy to expand services, grow its market share, and establish itself as a trusted platform for convenience.
Bolt Market will operate within a 10 km radius from its store in Kilimani, with free delivery to up to 3 kilometres and up to 80 per cent discount.
“Our customers have been requesting us to enter into this space of on-demand grocery delivery. So, we started off in Kilimani because of the density of that area… and we will have this delivery product available across Kenya,” Food General Manager, Edgar Kitur, said at the launch.
Besides the aim to serve a thriving food and grocery ecosystem, Bolt Market which is within the Bolt Food app, offers a selection of at least 1,500 carefully curated products, from fresh produce to household essentials.
The company says over the next quarter of 2025, it will target new retail partners like supermarkets, hotels, as well as manufacturers in further deepening its activities across the country.
“Right now we believe the market penetration is around five to 10 per cent and us entering the retail space now allows our customers to order everything from sugar to rice, milk, bread, all the way to electronics, beauty and hair products.
“Our store teams have no interruptions and handle products with care, making sure customers get the quality they would choose on their while saving their time,” Mr Kitur explained.
To order groceries from Bolt Market, he added, customers can download the Bolt Food app, where they will be able to see the selection of products offered in the store. Before confirming the order, the app shows the price and estimated delivery time of the order. In order to pay for the order, the customer has to enter their bank card details into the app.
