Start

Kenya and Somalia have excellent diplomatic relations that have progressively deepened since the Horn of African country joined the East African Community last year, President William Ruto posted on X during his formal visit to Kampala, Uganda, for the Comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development summit.

Ruto is also scheduled to meet his Ugandan counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni on the sidelines of the summit.

“Our two countries are doing more business than before, with Somalia buying goods worth KSh5 billion in the first nine months of 2024. On peace and security, Kenya, and indeed the region, will continue to be engaged in collaborative efforts to ensure stability in Somalia,” Ruto said.

The State House Spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed, said in a statement that Ruto will use the regional summit to advance Kenya’s efforts in not only food security and job creation, but also poverty reduction, and sustainable growth.

“The President will highlight the alignment of CAADP with Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, reaffirming the country’s commitment to agricultural transformation,” Mohamed said.
