Kisumu City will host the 4th Sub-Sovereign Governments Network (AfSNET) Investment Conference from November 25 to 27, according to a statement issued by Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
The Bank said Tuesday, November 19, the conference aims to serve as a platform for advancing sub-sovereign intra-African trade, investment, and industrialisation.
Along with strengthening current and new alliances between governments, investors, and development organisations to accelerate regional integration and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), it will also enable local governments to play a more active role in promoting economic growth, sustainability as well as development throughout Africa.
The conference also aims to establish Kisumu as a major player in regional and international development and as a new investment destination.
“The Forum will convene senior delegates from among members of the Forum of Regions of Africa (FORAF), as well as significant representation from a broad cross-section of senior African officials, private sector leaders, and investors. Joining these delegates will be representatives from relevant development partners as well as figures from Africa’s diaspora,” Afreximbank said.
Themed, “Leveraging the AfCFTA for Sustainable Trade and Investment: A Development Pathway for African Sub-Sovereigns”, this year’s conference comes three years after the first was held in in Durban, South Africa on the margins of the 2nd edition of the 2021 Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2021).
Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o said the conference is expected to establish meaningful collaborations while highlighting Kisumu City’s important position in Africa’s trade ecosystem. “It gives me great pleasure to warmly invite all the delegates to come and interact and share in the social and cultural passion of Kisumu and to experience our boundless economic activities,” he said in a press copy issued on October 18, 2024.
“Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, will be joining us at AFSNET 2024. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear his insights on why this year’s conference is a must-attend event,” he said on X social media platform, formerly Twitter, Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
The first AFSNET forum was attended by over 80 delegates, including representatives of six African sub-Sovereign governments including Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa, as well as senior government officials and those leading financial institutions such as academia, the private sector, and media.
