In a significant boost for Team Blue, the joint ticket of Doris Petra and Nick Mwendwa has gained momentum ahead of the much-anticipated Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections, scheduled for December 7. During a retreat in Naivasha, 53 delegates pledged their support for the duo, solidifying their candidacy as formidable contenders in the race.
Despite some delegates being unable to attend due to prior commitments, they have expressed their unwavering loyalty to the Petra-Mwendwa partnership. This show of confidence has emboldened Petra and Mwendwa, who are looking to rally even more support from undecided delegates in the weeks leading up to the election.
Petra, who is vying for the presidency alongside her running mate Mwendwa, reassured the delegates of their shared vision for Kenyan football. “With your invaluable support, I am committed to elevating the standards of our beloved game to new heights,” she stated.
Both candidates highlighted key priorities including the promotion of women’s football, youth development, and enhancing the coaching framework within the sport.
The pairโs candidature comes after Team Blue’s triumph in the county-level elections, where they secured victories in 32 of the 48 branches. In addition, 25 clubs have publicly backed the Petra-Mwendwa ticket, reflecting a growing belief in their ability to deliver effective leadership.
Petra extended her gratitude, emphasizing her readiness to fulfil the demands of the role if elected. “I have the experience and passion to bring about positive change within Kenyan football, and as Nick’s loyal deputy, I am poised to keep pushing our shared agenda forward,” she affirmed.
Highlighting their track record, Mwendwa cited significant achievements during his previous term, including the qualification of the Kenyan womenโs team for the FIFA U17 Womenโs World Cup and the menโs U20 team for the Africa Cup of Nations next year. These milestones underscore a commitment to not just maintain but enhance the trajectory of Kenyan football.
