A middle East investment and tech company, Silver Box, has acquired Kenya’s motor vehicle manufacturing firm, Mobius Motors, Kenya’s first motor vehicle manufacturing company, just six months after the local company said it will shut down.
Mobius, founded in 2009 with an investment valued at about Sh5 billion, has faced challenges in scaling production and keeping up with competition.
Silver Box said it will commence full manufacturing operations by July 2025 for Mobius 3 Model, with a new off-road SUV expected to launch in December 2025. The company has also reopened its service center.
This development has seen leadership changes where John Kavila has been appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Kavila has experience in manufacturing, operations, and customer service, and will oversee the firm’s strategic direction.
He takes over from outgoing CEO Nicolas Guibert, who expressed confidence that Silver Box’s involvement would help expand the brand’s market share, introduce new models, and improve service networks.
“I am deeply honoured to lead Mobius Motors, a company renowned for its bold and innovative approach in creating a truly unique Kenyan brand,” Kavila said.
He added that the focus will now be on increasing the firm’s market share while “increasing accessibility for Kenyan consumers.”
