Start

Tropikal Brands Afrika Ltd has invested Sh387 million in the development of more natural personal care products under the “ALO” brand.

The company’s managing director Davis Mukuria said the extensive ALO range includes body lotions, shower gels, body sprays, and roll-ons.

“We are committed to providing high-quality, effective, and sustainable skincare and hygiene solutions that meet the needs of a discerning consumer,” said Mukuria.

Mukuria added that the new products will be available in major retail outlets across Kenya and the region.

According to Tropical head of commercial Simon Kabue, the company has continued to focus on value creation initiatives that has seen it partner with 500 farmers and suppliers.

Tropikal, he added, has introduced natural ingredients to provide consumers with an excellent choice. In the ALO body lotions, for example, the company will use goat milk extract, rich in natural lactic acid, aids in exfoliation and skin nourishment. Goat’s milk contains lactic acid, which is a big deal in the beauty industry due to its gentle alpha hydroxy acid used to exfoliate, soften, brighten, and smooth the skin.

“The market is ready,” said Kabue. “Before we started this journey, we went to the market. It was over two years of research just to understand what consumers are actually looking for, and are craving for. Consumers want something that is not heavy on their skin.”

Tropical enters the market at a time when beauty care products market in Kenya is currently valued at Sh166.8 billion and is projected to increase at an annual rate of 4.9 per cent from 2025 and 2030 as per data and business intelligence site Statista.
